Mace Living completes Whiteley Village

30/11/2009
Mace Living, together with a Mace project management team, has refurbished, extended and altered over 160 cottages at Whiteley Village.
Located across 200 acres in Walton-on-Thames, the village refurbishment project was rolled out in phases. Each cottage has been completely stripped down to allow for major structural works to take place, including the replacement of roofs and extending or combining many of the buildings.
Key to delivering the project has been minimising disruption and building relationships with the residents. The Mace Living team achieved by involving themselves in village life through such activities as hosting parties for residents and refurbishing the William Whiteley memorial as part of centenary celebrations.
Client Whiteley Village Trust is reportedly delighted with the project and Mace Living project director Alan Quigley said:"It is a great privilege to be working on such a historical site and the team has done exceptionally well. Negotiating phase after phase is proof of this and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Whiteley Village Trust."
Whiteley Village is the largest single site of almshouses in the UK and was originally founded in 1907 at the request of William Whiteley. The grounds comprise two churches, village hall, licensed club, shop, post office, therapy pool, library, hairdresser and laundrette for the village's 250 residents.
